Afternoon guys, question for everyone here: Just viewed a lovely chim, 94 L reg 400 with just 32k from new, the current owner has had it for 14 years in the same garage, dry use only, fully waxoiled and generally pampered. The roof and interior are all mint, new toyos on and doesn't need anything doing (it appears) - he explained to me that a main TVR agent had been doing all the servicing (think he said powers performance of something - he's in the West Midlands area) up until around 2007 when he decided that paying such high prices given the limited mileage was stupid, so decded to service himself there on. Now I have no doubt by talking to him at great length that he has done this, but he hasn't kept the receipts for the parts etc.
My question is that although the car seems absolutely spot on and extremely thoroughly maintained and kept, will the physical lack of stamps be a problem if I looked to sell on in the future?
Be interested to hear everyone's own thoughts on this?
cheers.

Everyone is different, I prefer to see a folder full of receipts and a competent owner who gets his hands dirty over someone who just takes it to a garage. The former will normally know his car inside out and will replace things at the first sign of wear/for fun/because upgrade, the latter takes it to the garage when something has broken.

An alternative point of view on a self-serviced car here;
A competent and thorough TVR garage will replace things you didn't even know would wear out by doing checks during regular servicing.

My first 66k miles were virtually trouble free.
No less reliable than my new Volvo at the time.

They need a bit of both really. I like do do general bits like oil changes, new rad etc. But my local Audi/VW specialist does Brakes/Bearings etc & gives it a once over every so often.

(P.S. Matt, my indicator has fixed itself. hehe )

it wouldnt bother me int eh slightest, all the rv8 cars are easy to maintain and service, and any bits he may have missed will be cheap anyway. If he knows his stuff, the car is clean and drives well i d go for it, the fact thats 1 owner says a lot

Any helpful Tivs out there who can forward an itemised list of things needing servicing at 6000 & 12000 miles. Most should be easy to follow and carry out DIY. If owner does it and ticks all the boxes in the list, then a potential buyer should be impressed. Better IMO than dealer here say. Probably in some cases, better than the servicing garage, even with stamps!

The car has got a 7 year hole in its service history as far as I am concerned.

Not many 20 year old cars have a complete and full service history on paper...... Doesn't mean they've not been looked after though...

I'd buy on condition... If it looks right, drives right, and is a fair price, that'd be enough for mesmile

Stamps in a book from years ago mean little unless you can speak to the dealer, anyone can buy a stamp and fill a book up.

Rv8 servicing guide ( sorry cannot paste link) is brilliant and gives full run down of what to do for full diy service.

Mine sounds very similar, last official service 2005 , services by owner from then till 2012 when I bought it. The several folders and pics of things done / changed is amazing!

Having said that , I took it to RT racing in Sheffield for a 12k service last Feb for a good once over, all oils changed etc. Happy to do a basic serviceyseld this year and take to specialist next, and so on.

Go for it.

Agree to a point, I have a full TVRSH and Full personal history for the car, its not just the service history but every little thing got, even the stuff upgraded is boxed and kept (old engine warm stored in garage LOL)

As prices rise we will see the highest prices on those with full TVRSH and Personal History Files. The thicker the file the better.

But then I don't care, mines for keeps

Brilliant thanks paceman.

Will save £300-500 when I do most things myself. Tick the boxes with dates, done.

The worst car I ever owned came with a service book crammed full of main dealer stamps.

The best car I've ever owned came with just a couple of receipts and a 'replacement' service book with a few indi stamps.

Now I always appraise a car entirely on its current condition.
