I have a 4.5 and around 50 mph the acelorater pedal is hard to push down is this normal? I've white greased the throttle flywheel and pedal. Any ideas.

I would say that it is most likely the cable corroded inside the outer sheath, happened on my (4.2) a few years ago .... replaced the cable and experienced a vast improvement.

Have you tried getting some WD40 down the cable itself ??

Hope you get it sorted.

The accelerator cable path is unbelievably tortuous but the action is usually smooth if both the outer and inner are in good nick.

Check both operating ends (mine frayed at the point where the cable "hooks into" the pedal top) and replace if it looks OK.

If it's stiff to push the throttle, the cable is probably about ready to break, I would change it ASAP

Are your pedals hard or easy to press down ?

If the cable unit was ever replaced with a longer one then that does make the pedal a lot harder to press (and also increases the risk of the pedal sticking down when you lift off yikes ) so it may be worth sorting sooner rather than later just in case it does stick down.



FWIW if you only need to replace the inner cable then a brake cable off a bicycle will work fine as a replacement so long as you have the right connection on the end of it and it costs very little.

If you have to replace the full cable and sleeve there are a number of cables off ride-on lawnmowers that are virtually identical to the original Cerb part so if you've got a bit of time on your hands it might be worth investigation that a bit more (I don't know for certain which ones fit best and I don't have access to them to check and confirm but I think it's the John Deere ones).

Mine are easy. As above, I'd suggest you buy a new cable before you need a recovery truck home at some inconvenient time wink

Sorry, can't stop laughing ! I have an image of me being dragged horizontally round my lawn with my Mountfield fitted with an AJP (4.7)
