Regretted selling your 993 or 964?

How many have sold a 993 or 964 (or other air cooled 911) in the last few years and regretted it?
I often see new owners appear on PH giving details of a comprehensive search for their perfect 993/964. Then, once bought, we avidly read details and see the pictures of gradual improvements made, and rejoice with the owners at how good their cars have become!
Then, all too soon, some owners will decide to sell their air cooled 993/964s on: And one of the most frequent reasons given "to buy something they can run everyday". Then later on, we see some of the same PHers expressing regret at selling their air cooled Pork.
As a 993 owner of some 16-years, (used as a daily for a large part of that time), I always struggle to understand why anyone would think running a 993 or 964 on a regular basis would somehow spoil it? To my mind, both models were the result of over 30-years of continuous Porsche air cooled engineering development, and thus designed to be spanked, driven, and enjoyed, rather than 'keeping for best'.

Nope. I sold my 993 making a profit I was happy with giving me 3yrs motoring for free!
I then made a somewhat 'smart' move ditching the duffle coat, losing the beard and hemp shoes and getting into a 964 with the intention of using it more without worrying about values, only to find prices going stellar.

I loved my old 993 C2S, had it for two years and was my first 911, beautiful car 
But, I then drove a 996 GT3 and I'm afraid the love affair was over, the GT3 bug had well and truly got me. So the 993 went, again at a profit and the rest as they say, is history.
So personally, no regrets, but it was a lovely car....

I do miss my 964s but I always moved onto something better. I sold my C2 to buy the 964T, then I sold that to buy my GT3.
I miss certain aspects of them but I wouldn't swap my GT3 for one.
Tyinsky, go for it. We are here once so you may as well sample as many things as you can until you really click with something.

Never have regretted selling my 964 C2.
Rated not a great 911 by those in the know when it came out, and I personally never rated it that great a 'modern' 911 when I owned one.
Worth serious money today, but be damned if I'd change what I have now for one.

This is what stops me selling my 993. I love it and it is so enjoyable. Its just right.
I want a 996GT3 but I have probably missed that boat now so I guess I am staying put!
Seriously though, there are very few cars I would rather own. I am thinking that a 997GT3 might be the way forward though!

I sold my 964 Celebration and thought I was moving up to a 993C4S. Wrong.
I sold the 964 as it wasn't a great trackday car (a bit like the driver probably), it was too heavy and it was a lousy long distance car due to serious tyre noise issues. (After a trip from Skye to Leeds I was disorientated for a couple of days due to the noise in the confines of the cabin). And I wanted a change.
The 993C4S was certainly quieter and more suited to long distances but, again, it was no trackday car (Also see above). It was also as dull as ditchwater to drive, unless it was pissing with rain and you had to be in Cornwall (from London) in less than 3 1/2 hours. I had fallen in love with a GT3 some years before and when one came up in the right colour (Zanzibar) I bought it. I was fed up with the 993 and wanted a change.
The GT3 was, amazingly, quieter than the 964, and was in many ways more practical than the 993, being a bit bigger everywhere, whilst also being a lot lighter. As a trackday car, it was great. As a touring car it was passable, but as an everyday car, in London, it was utter s
t. In the end, I wanted cash and I sold it. I didn't particularly want to but needs must.
In retrospect, I deeply regret selling the 964 as it was everything you could ask - classic looks, practical day to day, a great colour - viola - and my wife absolutely loved it. It was highish miles and needed a bit of work but a great car overall (apart from the tyre noise). Had I known how much I would come to hate the 993, I would never have sold it. The grass is always greener as they say.
I was so pleased to see the back of the 993. A C2 (not that there was such a thing) might have been better but I think that the car was, overall, a bit too diluted.
I am ambivalent about the GT3 given the issues it raised for me. I like driving but half the time I couldn't use it as there were places it simply couldn't go.
It cost a fortune to keep in good nick and I certainly don't miss that.
Had I known what it would cost to run the 993 and GT3, to get them both where I wanted them in terms of maintenance, condition and handling, I would have said bks to that and spent the money upgrading the 964. For instance, a 3.8 engine, 4 wheel drive system from a 993 (it can be done) or ditched altogether, colour change for the interior (Rubicon grey looks nice but not for me) with better seats, and that would have cost about half what I ended up spending later on.
So regrets - 964 yes; 993 not at all; GT3 possibly.

definitely regret selling both my 993 carrera and 993 turbo...i used them as a daily in Central London, they were perfect!
Did many many road trips with them and the occasional bedford track day. AMAZING capable cars!

I am considering selling my 964 C4 and replacing it with an impact bumper 70's 911, possibly a Carrera 3.0…….. have I gone mad?
I love the look of the pre-73 cars but sadly they are out of reach, so I have started looking at the IB cars and they are really growing on me, especially the '74 Carrera look
Has anyone made this trade and regretted it?
