Hi All,

One of our trucks has an alloy bodies box on the back which thanks to some damaged years ago has a bow in bottom of it on one side. We believe it had a clout on the main roof bar which pushed the side down about 10mm or so. Everything is still true and straight apart from the unsightly bulge at the bottom!

Any one have experience of reparing this kind of damage? Our immediate plan was to cut a 6M x 15CM chequer plate piece for the inside and a 6M X 15CM 1.5MM ally piece for outside and bolt the two together to pull it back flush (with the same on the other side for symetry). Which has the added bonus of hiding the damage from tool boxes and bits rolling around inside wink

We would leave it but we want to use the awning off our other truck on this one so we need a relatively flat side!

This shows it well

We've removed all the bright work etc. ready for paint and need to cut the front corner out for a door, might be easiest to do that first and see why it's bowed then decide the plan - if it involves too much dicking around the easiest may be to stick another box on it!

Suppose it depends on how good you want it to look. You can just patch the side up if you wanted just dont leave any shap edges. Although that proably to big to patch up really.

Okay so we sorted it. Cut a chunk out the front for a door which allowed us to see what was going on in there. Water had been leaking through the skin behind the rear door hook and had rotted the board between the GRP. We supported the side of the box from the inside, chopped it all out on the inside along the whole length and cut some buffalo board to the required side then bonded this in place. This pulled the outer skin back straight and we've reskinned the inside. Only took a few hours and as the rest of the box is absolutely sound and the ally is all in good condition it seemed worth the effort.
