Hi all

I saw a V8V I really like on Saturday and looking at pulling the trigger this week. There were a couple of minor issues that I noticed that the dealer agreed to sort out as part of the sale and overall the condition of the car was great but I noticed a tiny bit of corrosion starting to come through on both door handles. It's only very small and hardly noticeable but I know this is a common problem. Should I be concerned and is it something that I should be put off by? I mentioned it to the dealer but they said they wouldn't fix the issue which I assume is down to the cost.

Any advice is much appreciated

It's not corrosion, it's poor preparation prior to painting; at least that's the current theory. Shame the dealer won't fix it, they should do as part of their prep I'd have thought, they'd deal with scuffed alloys and stone chips so why not this. Lazy attitude from them. Or they can give you 600 quid off.

Are you concerned by it and is it something that is putting you off? How could we know that?! Are you and is it? smile

It's not going to go away on it's own, find one that has been done already or isn't showing signs if they won't play ball. My 06 car is perfect, they do exist.

I had the same with the one I bought - it was the only negative part with the body work, so I didn't trouble too much about it - it hasn't got any worse in the last two winters and it remains barely noticeable

The car is at an independent and I've haggled them down as much as they will go so they are sticking to their guns on the door handles due to the cost involved. I read somewhere that it's around £600 a side to get it sorted so it's an expensive I don't really want to add to the cost of the car. However that said it's hardly noticeable, very, very small amount. I've seen V8V's before with much worse and can certainly live with it.

Mines doing it as well.... If this is the only bad thing about the car I wouldn't let it put you off.
As long as the rest of the car is all good I wouldn't worry...

Just because you find a car with perfect paintwork doesn't mean that will remain.
Bubbles can pop up later but when they do they don't normally get worse.

I would have a really close look at the rest of the bodywork. You may find similar problems around the rear lights, bonnet leading edge and even door edges.

Spent a good 30mins checking over each panel, non anywhere else on the car. Checked doors and edges, around the windscreen round arches etc and everything else was in good condition. The only other issues with the car was a rusty lower front grill, drivers mirror arm had corrosion and the wiper housing under the bonnet had flaked and gone rusty. Garage said they would fix all these issues so it's just the couple of pin size bubbles on the handles I need to worry about

Have a look at the rear valance where the parking sensors are. The 2 metal supports either side of the car can rust. Usually painted black but you can see the bubbles forming underneath.

its a very common problem…..probably 70-80% of cars from that time will suffer the door handle problem. i wouldn't let it be a deal braker if everything else is right about the car

wouldnt worry about it if the rest of the car meets requirements, as you could be looking for a long time for a car of that age without it

A few minor marks around the door handles doesn't detract from the driving pleasure, if you really must have a perfect car then save up for a newer one and/or perhaps still under factory warranty

Thanks guys, that puts my mind at ease. I am really happy with the rest of the car but just wanted to get a second opinion on the bubbling issue from a few owners. Think the deposit is going down today, very exciting.

My DB9 was fine but the Dealer spotted the bubbling and fixed it just before the Warranty was up.

I would not recommend you buy a car with bubbles on it as you can bet your bottom dollar that it will be held against you when you sell it on....even by the person who sold it to you !!! yes

I would agree with that. When I bought my first Aston, I looked at lot of pre owned cars and couldn't find the condition I required (95% of them rejected on paint issues). A lot of cars repainted were not a perfect colour match, in the end I bought a new car.
