Decided that its time for a new (to me) car.
Test drove the F Type over the weekend, very impressed.
Put a deposit on this beasty. The plan is to pick it up later this week.

However,,,,, I made an assumption (stupid I know), that the car had power fold mirrors, it turns out that it doesn't. This could be a show stopper, as my garage is not what you would call capacious.

The garage opening is only 20mm wider than the car with mirrors extended. I could fold the drivers mirror in, but it would cause problems positioning the car when in the garage to give me enough room to get in and out.

So, the question is, does anyone have any ideas about the possibility of retro fitting power folding mirrors?

(I have asked the dealer and I'm waiting for a response).

I know owners of the XK's have done so, so can't see why not

Forgetting the mirrors for a moment , how on earth will you get out of the car ?

Hope you manage to resolve this to your satisfaction and enjoy the car

I would assume and hope that the OPs opening (Excuse the pun) is smaller than the width of his garage.
I struggled to get my XF into the garage with the mirors folded in, but once in, I had a generous 2ft at the side to get out.

OP, if you cant retro fit folding mirrors, you could always remove a brick either side of the door at mirror height laugh

Update:

The dealership said retro fitting wasn't possible. I might try contacting Jaguar direct to see what they say. I think its going to be expensive anyway, as I would guess that I would need to buy new power fold mirrors to start with.

The salesman is coming round with the car tomorrow, to see if it will fit. If not, then the deal is off and I'll have to look for another car.

I reckon that if I drive the car at speed into the garage, it should eventually fit! driving

I will and if I need advice on finance, I'll ask the Loan Arranger!
(thought I'd better get that gag in before anyone else).

You already know it ill fit? You also know 20mm is a stupidly small margin for error!

Manually folding the passenger side mirror will work ok but I suspect that would get annoying.

The 'everything's an extra' on the F Type really annoys me. Hope you get it sorted - lovely car smile

Don't let the possibility of manually folding one mirror put you off. I have to do that with my car so I have a mirror on the garage wall that allows me to see the gap between the door surround and the side of the car when the mirror is pulled in.

Just don't make the mistake I did when commenting about squeezing into the garage, I mentioned it was a bit tight and I had less than a couple of inches to play with. Lady B8 got a lot of commiserations that night in the pub.

Well the salesman brought the car round this afternoon..... it fits! ... just! (bloody hell it wide!)
Its a struggle getting out, but I managed it without straining anything, (apart from my wallet).

KenC, great idea about the mirror.

The only issue is that I noticed a loud clacking noise as I turned the wheel. If they manage to sort this out today or tomorrow, then I pick the car up late tomorrow afternoon clap

Was the loud clacking noise when the steering was on full lock? If so it was the tyre tread returning to shape after it had lost contact with the road? All perfectly normal for wide tyres.

No, it was as I was winding the lock on for slow speed maneuvering. It sounded mechanical, but could have been some trim or a mud flap catching I guess. I've asked the dealer to investigate asap.

I've nailed some carpet off cuts to the wall by where my door opens, that way it don't have to be quite so paranoid about the door touching the wall.

Me too. I screwed some ply panels to the wall and then glued on carpet tiles. The salesman was impressed, (I think he had visions of chunks of paint falling off before he noticed the carpet tiles).

Youve not left your self much time to build a wider garage so just get your other half to fold them in every time you put it away, problem solved ...
