One of my rugby mates turned up in this SL500 a couple of weeks ago. Thought to be the only yellow one in the country?

Now, I'm partial to a yellow car (see my profile) but I'm not sure about this one.

Factory colour or respray?

I like yellow cars but dont think i'd go for it on a R129, to me they are supposed to be sort of understated... not shouty!

I'm not 100% sure but the way the lad was talking it was factory colour.

I see that one has a panny roof, which means there's at least one other in yellow as I saw it a few years ago driving on the opposite side of the road to me, and it had a solid hardtop.

Now I'm not sure if I remember this rightly, but something tells me I was once told there was a R129 SL60 in yellow somewhere in Scotland.

Was this the same car? I don't know, but I like to think so.

I keep seeing a random wing mirror in that exact yellow on Ebay for one of these, personally I'm of the opinion that the R129’s look best in darker simple colours.... like mine tongue out

Perhaps it's a factory special order paint.

It's a crash test car. They've patched it up and removed the stickers and dummies.

It looks Mercedes Yellowstone to me. More popular on early SLKs. Without checking back through old brochures I can't remember whether it was a standard SL colour. My guess would be a Designo-style special order.

I pretty sure it was a Designo colour - on the R170's anyway.

Yellowstone & Sunburst Yellow are the same colour. Paint code 685, if I remember correctly.

READY FOR THIS. IT CALLED..........

SL500, III/10, PORSCHE-GELB

Which as you can guess is Porsche Yellow.
Thats right WE/Merc stole the colour from them.

Hope this helps. (not sure why your Merc dealer couldn't find that out)
