After a thoroughly enjoyable test drive on Saturday morning in a 111S, we're thinking about getting rid of our much loved Cerbera.

Now obviously I know the Elise will never get close to the straight line speed or noise of the Cerb, but the grin that was on my face after a 10min thrash in the 111S was almost painful !

I've hear all sorts of horror stories about Elise's, but I heard similar stories when buying the Cerb, and (touch wood) have been very lucky with our car, so wondered if there is anything I should be aware of (apart from the K series head gasket problem).

I'd probably be looking at a 2nd hand 111S, and it would probably being used 5-6 days a week....

Opinions/suggestions/comments gratefully received !

Hi Olly, glad you liked the 111S - my personal opinion is that unless you only ever use long straight roads, you'll soon get used to the different power philosophy of the Elise. Your grin knows that's true!

Take a look at the buyers guide here: www.elise-faq.info/content/buying/index.php

Edit: Forgot to say that I've used my Elise 5-6 days a week for 3 1/2 years with no problems so you'll be fine there.

I should also point out to other readers of this thread that it wasn't my car that Olly drove on Saturday. But someone did buy mine yesterday!

Olly, I use mine every day, have done for 5 years 80,000 plus miles.

IMHO the more you use it the better. Keep it serviced, Steve Williams for instance.

Re CHG Just let the thermostat open befor giving it some welly. In short Rad at front with pipework to rear virtually the whole length of the car. In the winter that is a large volume of water. When cold hitting a Hot engine, take a guess.

Good luck Gary.

So you're thinking of moving to the 'Dark-side' as well!

The running costs are very appealing in comparison to the Cerb, and at the end of the day, I know I would use a lot more of the Elise's performance than I do the Cerb on a regular basis.

Thanks for all the other comments ! In an ideal world, we'd have both cars, with the Elise being the daily driver/fun car, and the Cerb for high speed motoring.
