Yes you! If you run a what car thread, what car did you go for and why? If you asked for advice on a matter let us know how it turned out. If you asked the best route from A to B did you follow it and how long did it take. I for one would love to know how some of these threads conclude.
You're absolutely right, it's most annoying to contribute to a thread and hear no conclusion, or to find someone had exactly the same dilemma as you might be facing, but never said whether they got it right or not!
I always make the effort to go back and answer my what-car, mechanical problem or, in one case, what-smartphone threads once the decision's been made. Feels like you've just stopped a story halfway through otherwise.

The 140 mile commute thread has just been updated by the OP which was a nice bonus. Told us what car he bought after everyone gave advice and looks like he's gone with some of it.
I just started a thread asking for help so I'll be sure to update when the issue is solved, it's only polite.

It's useful in so many ways, apart from the learning/satisfaction of the people helping you finding out whether they were right or not, it's your opportunity to thank them (most important, no?), and it means giving a complete piece of information for someone who may need help urgently and is frantically Googling away..What's the downside? It only takes a few minutes to finish your saga off, and often that's what makes it worthwhile for the contributors.
