Ok, throwing this out to the collective for some informed suggestions.
I'm a returning 7ner, having had HPC's and a JPE in the past. I'm after something special, must be reliable, quick, useable and capable both on a track day and a reasonably long road trip.
I have a budget of £25k tops. I recently looked at a freestyle 260 bhp Duratec and also at an HPC. If at all possible, I want a car that's not going to drop too much further in value or better still, be a good long term bet.
By the way, I loved the Duratec but think it might be overpriced and the HPC appeals but reckon I'd struggle with noise limits on track days. I'm guessing an R500 is too fragile and expensive to keep in good fettle?
Suggestions welcome.....

I have mine for sale at the mo which pretty much ticks those boxes but I have it advertised just above your budget but after having nothing but timewasters and dreamers and a change of circumstances this last week with a property sale I am questioning if I actually need to part with it just yet and may get another summer out of it, have to say though If you can get something similar on budget I would highly recommend it, the duratec engine even with big power is at home pottering about on the road as it is on the track , I absolutely love mine it never fails to put a smile on my face! Suggestions welcome.....
Is there no Csr"s for sale at the mo,they would also tick the boxes especially for touring , I noticed my old white CSR260 was in caterham cars showroom last month for sale but at strong money!
some details and pics of it on my Ebay shop , only on there as a half hearted attempt at selling it to keep swmbo happy
my phone number is on there if you want any info

I've just traded in my R400 for my 2014 race car at Caterham South. It is the most fun car I've ever owned. Speak to Anthony or Dom, it should be within your budget. It was a superb spec as well. If I didn't have the race car and the GT3 filling my garage, I would have kept it.
Ah Dom sent me the details of your old R400 today do you know much about the history of the car?griffgrog said:

Edited that for you
In all seriousness I hope they get that issue sorted soon. It must be phenominally frustrating finally taking delivery of such a great car then being told you can't use it.

I don't remember the history, but I did speak to the previous owner who had traded up to an R500, another PHer called Russell. The car is well known to Caterham and seemed as good as new to me. The K series engine is superb. I know the Duratec's are a bit more torquey, but the pops and bangs that R400 made were fantastic. And the trade in I got from Caterham was very very good indeed. Motoring doesn't get much better.I saw that car and I'll be in Malaga shortly, rather drive that back than faff about at the airport.
I reckon those K R500s are a rock solid bet for residuals though, can't see them ever going much below 20k, I think they're at the bottom now.
If I stuck with Caterhams after this one I reckon I'd go the K R500 route, especially with the minimal use I give it.

As an aside, with you mentioning your old car (you beat me to that by a whisker by the way
) I googled for the first time in ages to see if any have been up for sale recently........as it's been 3 years since the last one came up.
I was astounded to see your old one for sale on Racecar direct from December 2013, up at 70,000 euros. Jeez, wonder if it sold, and wonder how close he pulled to that?
