Hi all

I am due to collect my new car next week (07 v8v) and was wondering if anyone had tried replacing the horrible Volvo key fob for the newer glass emotion control unit style fob. Is it possible to get a dealer to set this up or not? I know it's a small thing but I much prefer the glass key

Thanks

I'm guessing that would be a very expensive upgrade.

It has been done before, there is a thread in AMOC about it. Ridiculously expensive due to effectively needing a whole dash.

Any dealer will flat refuse, it's a bodge job at best.

It would be easier, and cheaper, to buy a 4.7 in the first place!

Here it is: http://www.amoc.org/forum/index.php?topic=25627.0

No mention of the cost though.

Sorry, I don't want to change the ignition but just change the fob. I'd still use the standard key to start the car but the fob for opening doors, boot etc

A few on here switched to a Jaguar fob

Better than the volvo unit and a straight swap of the internals.

Personally I don't find the push in fobs as convenient to use as a key, though they do look better.
Keyless entry with a big red lit start button gets my vote.

As I said I'd like to keep the key and the start button but just want to replace the keyfob with the glass key style. It seems looking at the thread on the amoc website that it would require a dealer to activate the glass key to work with my car. I don't have any idea what this might cost though, any ideas?

Might be just a simple PCB swap internally if the buttons are in the same place???
Don't know if it could be attached to your key. Might be an issue keeping them separate incase you lose or misplace it??

Do not be too disappointed with your key fob.

With the 4·7, the glass block thing (Emotional Control Unit don't you know smile), is certainly a work of art. However, mine usually stays at home, for fear of dropping or damaging the article, with they say costs almost £1,000 to replace.

The other press button key fobs provided are of surprisingly poor quality. After some use, you can not easily see the button symbols.
