Hi all. Firstly I apologies for my ignorance about these things. But I have an electric motor and I've burnt it out (my own fault I put it under too much stress for too long). Now the thing is almost new (only used it about 3 times!)

As most motors do. It comprises of 3 main parts. A cylinder part and a central part which revolves inside the cylinder part and the brushes. Now the brushes are new so they've not worn out. I've obviously burnt out one of the other 2 parts. But which one is most likely to have gone? I've contacted the company about spares and they sell the 2 separate parts individually. So I don't want to order both and waste money if only one part has gone.

Is there a was to test each part? The outside cylinder part seems to be a bit black on the copper so my guess is that. But what do you guys think?

Also. The spares company are calling one part the stator and one part the field coil. Am i right in thinking the middle part that revolves inside the other is called the field coil and the outside part the stator?

Thanks in advance for any help !

Hello,
revolving part = rotor
static part = stator

Do you have a multimeter?
if yes you can check that you haven't melted a rotor or stator winding by measuring resistance where the electricity goes into and out of the rotor and the stator.

PM me for more assistance.

Why do you think it's burnt out ? Are you sure the brush wasn't sticking or something.

What motor and what are you using it for.
