997.2 GT3 RS or 997 GT2 RS

A few of you will know I've been helping my dad search for a 997.2 GT3 RS for around 7 months now, however he's struggled to find the right car so far. Because of that, he's now considering opening his search to include a GT2 RS.

I'd be quite interested to hear the thoughts of an owner of a GT2 RS or someone who's driven both. Just how wild would/does the 620bhp GT2 RS feel compared to the 450bhp GT3 RS?

Was there a standard specification for the 2RS? Were ceramics standard? Was front lift an option on them?

Sorry that this doesn't answer your question, but if you've had trouble finding the right 3, isn't it going to be even harder finding a 2?? And that's a rhetorical question.

I've never driven a 2rs, but if the plain jane 2 gives a flavour of an RS, the 3 is a better car in my view.

We won't be giving up the search for a 3. We'll be looking for both simultaneously.
I know finding a 2RS isn't going to be easy either, but you just never know...

He just can't decide if 620bhp will be too much for him.

In my experience Turbos are less characterful than NA, and no horsepower is too much, most cars have variable power control ;O)

It's not strictly about the HP, but the way it delivers it. A big wallop of torque can be a PITA in some circumstances.

Yes huge difference. Around PEC I struggled to get the 2RS to take off, in contrast the 3RS was alive from the first moment. Completely different animals - 3RS is the best road car I have driven.

When driving a gt3 it's not that easy to have a quick play as the engine needs to be over 6k.

Any way finding a gt2rs is not going to be easy and will also be £170k

The engine does NOT need to be revved over 6k in order for it to be enjoyed!!!




I do agree that price wise, GT2 RS's will be around 70k more than the '3 RS

I think William Loughran sold a delivery mileage GT2 RS recently for about £220,000.

Terrible analogy. One is a 4wd car that any ham fisted so and so could drive quickly and the other is a RWD, rear engined car, that needs total care.

Have you driven a 7.2RS? Your point about being over 6k is well off the mark.

Two very different cars as some have pointed out.

Finding a good GT2 RS will be even more difficult than finding a GT3 RS in your preferred specification – as I have said on your other thread I think at some point you will have to compromise if you are going to find a car at all…

I also looked for a car over several months and missed a few whilst prevaricating – in the end you just have to jump in accepting the fact the perfect car may never come along. Take the leap now – prices are still rising!

Given the amount of money that acquisition is going to cost, surely the thing to do is to book yourself the appropriate days at the Porsche Experience Centre to drive the cars and make your own mind up? It'll probably cost a thousand quid, but then you ought to at least know what you want to splurge a 6 figure sum on definitively, rather than relying on the opinion of the internet...

FWIW though - by expanding your search to the GT2RS you seem to be saying that because you cannot source rocking horse pooh you are going to try and find some unicorn tears instead. Only 28 came into the country (yes - rarer than the RS 4.0) - so given that you can't find one of the ~140 3.8RSs that suits you your chances aren't good. A couple of months ago someone was after a RHD aqua blue GT2RS as they had seen one a while back and liked it. It transpired that they had seen _THE_ one that exists.....

Are you really sure that you won't consider LHD?

Let's just remember. I'm sourcing the car for my dad. No matter how much work I've put into helping him the past 7 months, I'm probably never gonna get to drive it.

I thought there were only 26 4.0 RS in the UK.

I also found an old advert from Romans International which states that there are only 8 RHD ones in the UK. I did think that was a little low though.

DVLA says that it peaked at 33 but now down to 28 (some left hookers have come in and some RHD have been exported so the breakdown right now has become an unknown). However, new registrations were 28 in 2011 + 6 in 2012 and another in 2013. Thread vultures will recall that at least one UK RHD car was exported unregistered somehow too (anecdotally OPCs weren't supposed to sell them unregistered but I don't know the rest of the story). Personally I thought that it was 28 from the initial run plus a few paint to samples afterwards. Someone on here may have official numbers? I know directly of a car that came to the UK last year though, so the 2013 is almost certainly a white LHD one from Switzerland.

Well, unfortunately my dad won't be getting his hands on the GT2 RS. Saying it was about 70k more than a 3RS was definitely being conservative. And truth be told, he still really has his heart set on a 3RS.

It was an amazing example and I just hope he doesn't live to regret his decision.
