Had my hearing tested and it was pretty much OK for a 50 year old, except for my left ear showing a 30db loss at 2000 HZ, though only 15db for 1000 and 4000. My right ear showed 15db for all three frequencies, which is pretty normal for a middle aged bloke.
So what could have caused a loss on this particular frequency in one ear? The most hearing threatening thing I do is motorcycling though I always wear earplugs. Would 2000hz be the approximate frequency of wind noise through the helmet by any chance?

Could be caused by all sorts. Infection, blood pressure, past injury and sustained exposure to noice etc. Unless you can put it to something specific you'll struggle to pin down a cause.
I have tinnitus in both my ears, but the worst is in my left ear. Had a mortar round got off beside me (left hand side) in 2000 during a live firing exercise. Really off putting at first but ive gotten used to the lack of directional sound perception. Afghanistan fried my right ear due to large volumes of generally getting my trigger finger out. Again, off putting but bearable.

Ruined my hearing due to being in a rock band. Oddly my right ear is the one with tinnitus, which was the one facing away from the drummer. It doesn't bother me too much (only when I'm very tired or feeling ill) but I always wear earplugs these days at gigs. Hearing loss can be anything really, even a one-off loud noise if you're unlucky.
