Close to buying!!! Peter Morgan question
Discussion
Ok going for a private purchase of a 2006 997 with 40k miles. Has 7 months left on official porsche warranty, and had the 111 point check in Sep 2013 to extend the warranty which got the all clear. I have instructed Peter Morgan to do full inspection ahead go the sale, am I being overly prudent or is it worth the money seeing as it's my first ever purchase!?

I think I would just buy it without inspection if it passed the OPC 111 check 5 months back and is under full Porsche warranty.
Of course do you own checks on tyres, brakes, shocks etc and get a over revs print out done.
but don't see the point in another full inspection.
This. If it's covered by Porsche already there seems little point.Of course do you own checks on tyres, brakes, shocks etc and get a over revs print out done.

Caveat emptor!
Get the Peter Morgan inspection.
Trust an OPC 111 point inspection at your peril…and then read the legal disclaimers around liability for that opinion.
…and if you think these OPC inspections are worth the paper they're written on…then see this:

I know Peter Morgan is well respected but I'd expect his inspection to have all the same legal disclaimers. These guys will always want to cover their back. Get the Peter Morgan inspection.

The OPC warranty is is a good one and its validity will in no way be linked to the outcome of the Peter Morgan inspection.

It will if Peter Morgan finds over revs in the DME!...I don't know what the claim limit is under these Porsche warranties, but while a Peter Morgan or OPC inspection will both be caveated with disclaimers, my point is not to place too much confidence in the OPC inspection - it's not a silver bullet.
The horror story in the link is particularly interesting becaue NZ authorities are rigorous about any corrosion in imported vehicles & will condemn a vehicle to the crusher if it doesn't meet their structural integrity standards. For this reason ex-UK vehicles trade at a discount in the NZ car market.

Isn't there a 90 day transfer window on private sales and the warranty?
Head always say get it inspected, the OPC check was months ago, loads could have happened since then, it could have been crashed, engine scored, clutch worn and god only knows what.
When spending 10s of thousands of pounds why worry about a couple of extra £100 for peace of mind.

Definately go for an inspection is you are set on this car. However 40k miles etc is no guarantee against issues.
How close are you to GenII budget ? Have a careful think before you commit to a 2006 car as Gen II cannot be too far away from your budget. You will eliminate IMS / bore score / D chunk worries and think of when you want to sell the Gen II will be even more sought after.
Ive had a 996 and taken the risks without getting bitten however the sort of cash you're going to outlay here id want a DFI engined Gen II car all day long........

Who cares how many questions a guy asks about a car? I can't think of a better place to get information from owners (and naysayers)...
OP, only you can decided if its worth the additional cost to have it inspected again. Personally, if it was my money then I would, just make sure you have a warranty. The cost of an engine in a 911 is eye watering....
Good luck and enjoy, forget the naysayers, these are fantastic cars and like all sophisticated bits of kit they do go wrong!
Tom.
