Kougar Jaguar - Loud Exhaust
Discussion
Just bought myself a Kougar Jaguar.
Presently in the workshop for a few mods and a good check over.
I've had one short test drive and it does go very well to say the least, only thing is the exhaust is extremely loud. No way it would ever get on a track day.
Does anyone have experience of the various noise reduction items - baffle type inserts etc. - as I don't particularly want to change the exhaust itself ?

Very nice
Should go like the proverbial off a shovel.
Perhaps you can tell us all whether it is true or not that adrenalin is brown after one of your more spirited drives?
As for the exhaust - have you spoken with Graham Paddick who has raced one of these for many years? He will almost certainly be able to help and can perhaps suggest mods he has made over time with the benefit of experience. Contact me off-list and I'll put you in touch if you don't have his contact details.

Very nice car. I believe it was built and campaigned by Robin Beech, he of the 27 litre RR, at the Brighton Speed trials for many years until it abruptly turned right one year when his wife was driving it. Next owner was the Simon Taylor, lots of history in C&SC, until he replaced it with the Stovebolt. There's a similarity in shape if not value!
It's got an interesting history.
Originally built by a chap called Robin Beech who's CV includes a 27 litre Merlin-engined special.
Owned for several years by Simon Taylor the motoring journalist and commentator.
I actually remember the car being featured in Classic and Sportscar (I think) when he owned it in the 1980's.
Back in the day Lynx motors made some alloy bits for it including nose cone, bonnet and cycle wings. It also has a Lynx inlet manifold and triple Dellorto carbs.
The Lynx employee who made the alloy panels (Simon Dunford) who now owns Classic Jaguar Racing, was so impressed with the car that he bought the Kougar company when it came up for sale many years later.

Michael - if you can confirm the owner's surname at the time it was submitted it to Lynx I may be able to find records (photos/invoices etc) for you. Lynx tended to record every car that passed through their hands - often with photos. I have the complete customer records for Lynx Motors in a spare room! The records are boxed and sorted alphabetically by customer (rather than by car/job) which is why I need the customer surname. There is also a photo-archive of 30,000+ images sorted by date. There could be something there too.The Lynx employee who made the alloy panels (Simon Dunford) who now owns Classic Jaguar Racing, was so impressed with the car that he bought the Kougar company when it came up for sale many years later.

Still looking through the Lynx archives for anything about Mike's (mph's) Kougar but no joy so far. Part of the problem is that there are just too many distractions and I keep being diverted from the task by some wonderful cars and their photographic records. Also some quite famous and illustrious owners. Many truly amazing cars passed through the Lynx workshops.
I did catch a glimpse of a car and thought, "AH HA! FOUND IT!" but further examination showed I was well wide of the mark. The picture was in a small album and I thought I'd post some of them here as they are of the kind of car that was clearly an inspiration for Mike's Kougar.
Anyone spot what it is?

Close enough for a cigar Mike
