HELP IM FREAKING OUT !!!

our 3 yr old daughter has just got out of bed complaining her bum is sore, on closer inspection we saw something white wiggling about as thin as a piece of string and about 5mm long... the interweb seems to point to threadworm but I have never witnessed anything like this.


Oh my god my whole body is itching at the thought of it and I can't eat my tea... fooook !
everything material is getting binned in the morning and anything soft toy wise is getting nuked at top temp in the washer.

any advice appreciated.... Really dont want the 2 year old to get this

The house cleanliness is excellent so Im dumbfounded as to what the hell is going on.... right I'm off to the shower to bleach myself !

Easily caught when children are young from playing on the floor or in the garden and not washing hands.

Nothing to worry about though.

It will however be very uncomfortable for her until they clear out.

(I'm not too sure of the remedy - do people worn their children in the same way we worm pets?)

Wouldn't worry too much, docs or even pharmacist will give you worming treatment and they will pass naturally. I remember as a kid I was regularly wormed - god awful liquid I had to drink but always worked!

Sounds like threadworms, you need some mebendazole from your GP/pharmacist. I normally treat the rest of the household as well regardless if they have symptoms or not (it's a one off dose comes in solution or tablet)

This is horrid, I don't mind sick, poo, limbs hanging off, blood .... I feel like we are under attack... the mrs is en-route to the 24 hr chemist

It is very common in young children and is nothing to worry about. Treatment should be available over the counter in almost all pharmacies and should be free for her under the minor ailments scheme. Also, make sure you clean under her nails thoroughly and try to stop her from itching the area if you can. Good hygiene is important to get rid of the eggs.

Ideally you should get the whole family treated even if they're not displaying symptoms. It is usually only one dose.

Nothing to worry about, as above go to the chemist and treat everyone in the family as they are relatively easy to get if someone is infected.

poor girl ..... it was suggested that "poor" people that ate lots of sugar got them when I was young.... cheers for the replies glad I'm not a horrible parent
