Sonning Bridge open yet?

Anyone know if Sonning Bridge is open - I have heard that the road linking Sonning village with the Henley Road to the north is closed?

Ah yes, thanks. I did look on the internet but didn't know if the info was up to date. Anyway I've just heard form someone there that the answer is it's still closed.

Since Oxfordshire has always resisted calls from Berkshire and Reading for a 3rd bridge over the Thames, you'd have thought they'd have been trying a bit harder to get the Sonning route reopened, but you don't get the impression there's much going on at all.

I reckon it'll be closed for weeks/months now, unless someone finds a way of putting some real pressure on the council...

There has been renewed debate locally about a third bridge.
In fact Rob Wilson Reading East MP is participating in a petition.

Also Smallmead Re-cycling Depot was shut yesterday because the access road was flooded.
So before you load the car up with junk best to check.
Probably as a result Bracknell RD was heaving yesterday.

Are you sure the tip was closed as it was re-opened last week? The road has still got standing water on it but the tip was definitely open on Saturday at least.

Yes, 100% sure - the road was closed up near the Relief Road traffic lights.
I think there's so much ground water that even a modest rainfall leads to it flooding in the dip half way towards the tip.

The road will remain closed for the foreseeable future due to subsidence caused by the flooding, apparently the local council have to wait for the water table to drop substantially before they can assess the damage to the roads footings.

The road is only passable on one side between the roundabout and pit entrance (heading towards the North side) as the subsoil has been totally eroded and the tarmac is almost 'hanging' on a thin layer of dirt!

I know the road from Sonning Eye is going to be closed for quite some time.Has anyone tried to use the narrow one way bit from the Flowing Spring Pub to Sonning Eye? then can you get over Sonning bridge.

Just reported on BBC that the road will open, maybe today, or if not, tomorrow, albeit with temporary lights.

Went through this afternoon. Doesn't really look in much worse condition than a lot of S. Oxon roads honestly.
