Sooooo, nearly got side swiped - Vid

As the title suggests, someone forgot to check his blind spot. One of only a handful of times I've gotten a twitchy ahole behind the wheel! He did put his hand up to apologise, good job really cos I was ready to give him a right round o' fks!!! Although I am partly to blame and admit that.

I was joining a dual carriageway from a slip road. The slip road becomes part of the dual carriage way and creates 3 lanes. I stayed in the left lane because I was coming off at the next junction ¼ mile away. I was doing 65mph.

Just one of those things I guess, lucky for both of you. Think personally I'd have let him have the space rather than gone past, but that's not to say I think you were wrong to get past them

Why did you put yourself in that gap, in their blindspot?

You put yourself into a space that could be pinched. It reminds me of this:

Personally i don't think i would have tried to pass him on the left in that situation; seems there was a fair chance he may have wanted to move over.

Would it not have been better to brake harder when you first saw him coming into your lane, letting him go in front instead of begin to squeeze you into the side of the road?

At the start of the vid I was just behind him. Like I said I was only doing 65. he must've let off the gas as when I move up that's him slowing down not me speeding up.

Agree. Either get past quickly or hang back, don't fanny about in someone's blind spot.

Blind spots are a problem, but it's entirely optional to be in them.

In hindsight yes it probably was, but like with all things like this it happened so fast

I do think maybe you should've slowed down a bit to let them pass,

It is of course always your duty to check your blind spots before changing lanes and the VW obviously failed there. However, I do think you were pushing your luck slowly undertaking a vehicle like that, would you do the same to a lorry?

OP come on, seriously. You was sat in his blind spot for quite a while then surprised when he started to move across? Am I the only one here that thinks it was the complete opposite of riding defensively. You said you had to be off in 1/4 of a mile, I'd suggest you either sit back and wait, or zip round on the right, your on a bike for christs sake.

Yeah it was close. I think we were both in the wrong tbh. I was wrong for approaching his blind spot and he was wrong for not checking said blind spot. Like others have said at least nothing got damaged, lesson learned.

On a side note it's for exactly this sort of reason I have a dash cam

OP, I would politely suggest that a prudent driver would never have put themselves in that position. You need to allow more space/room for error by all parties. Either get well in front on the slip road, or keep well back behind, and maintain position behind. Bad driving on your part. It takes 2 to tango.

At least you've taken some learning from it, I think its situations like these which helps us develop 'spidey sense' for things like this!

Agreed, I would never of hung about there, I would either of given it a boot full to undertake or eased off and given him room in case he did want to come over.

I would of actually been annoyed at the OP if I was the VW driver.

I agree and I've admitted we were both partly to blame.... My ahole still twitched though

Easily avoided by you, I'm afraid. Sure, he should have checked his blind spot, but was your first thought when you saw him not 'he might want to move left to take the exit'?
