VED at the post office

Can anyone confirm if I can buy VED at the post office without insurance.

The post office website says I need the reminder or V5, the MOT cert and insurance cert and this was my understanding aswel.

I have spoke to the DVLA today and they said I can 100% tax the car at a post office with no insurance on the car.

Just to add, I made a point of asking if he wasnt mistaking this with recent change to not having to present your insurance cert. He confirmed I can buy VED when there is no insurance on the car at all.

Tried to tax my car on Monday at the post office without insurance certificate and computer said no.
Had to go home for certificate and then queue again.

Taxed one with the reminder and another with the new keeper supplement last week.

I took insurance and MOT for both cars but the lady at the counter insisted she didn't need to see them. She did scan both of them so whether the computer confirmed MOT and Insurance I couldn't say.

Without a physical insurance certificate ? Yes, since last December.

Without the vehicle being covered by a valid policy of insurance ? No, not as far as I'm aware.

Its not a case of not presenting the document itself its the fact there no insurance on the car at all.

I am getting the car back from the insurance company this weekend and the DVLA confirmed there is no registered keeper so I have to apply for a new v5 which is going to stop me buying insurance as there is no option for no registered keeper.

This is the bit I specifically asked him and repeated it 3 times and he said yes. I'm not convinced though. To be honest I will probably wait anyway.

Basicaly the ins co where going to write off the car then decided to fix it but I had alredy sent over the V5 to them. They have since returned it to me and whilst they had it they never passed it to the DVLA.

Anyway I have spoke to the DVLA and they confirmed that nobody is the registered keeper and I will need to send them this V5 for them to reprint and send out a new one. For this reason I can't tick the box on insurance confirming I am the registered keeper so will probably hold back on the VED until this is all sorted out. The only downside is this can take up to 4 weeks.

She did raise an eyebrow at the £475 when she asked if I was taxing it for a year

I just told her that's because it's a real car not an Eco friendly shopping trolley

Not only will they not sell you one, but you would be breaking the continuous insurance regs.

Two choices. A little white lie, and say that, yes, you are the RK. You will be, I assume? Or SORN it until the V5C comes through.

I can't be breaking the continuous ins regs as I'm not the RK yet.

When the new V5 comes through it will be insured straight away and taxed.

To wack thats the exact sum I will be taxing mine for aswel.
