Wife as finally decided to stay with Mercedes and leave the Z4 idea behind.
Anyone have any real life mpg figures and what the CDI is like,we are going for a 250 petrol or a CDI.
Wife does about 6000 miles pa and I use the car for the odd trip to London.
At present her existing SLK 200 seems to average around the 34 mpg and on my trips to London I get around the
40
So just not to sure on the noise and driving experience of the CDI.
Appreciate your comments.

There were some very, very cheap lease deals on these a while back. Not sure if any are still available but it would be well worth checking. The 250 is coarse, but gutsy and economical. Have a search around and you'll find a thread on here by someone that got one and really rated it.
Many thanks
I have decided on an outright purchase with a budget around the 28k mark there are plenty on the trader to chose from and I expect lots more to be added over the next few days after the new 14 plates went out on the 1st March.
We have a lease petrol 200 at the moment that goes back in May. Bit basic though now want some extras like
Air scarf
Heated seats
Not to bothered about command as I have a Becker map pilot unit
Ambient lighting
Only thoughts behind the CDI where unlike me,the wife in the past has kept her cars for 5 or 6 years so this next purchase
Would be a keeper.

Petrol it is then, seems to be loads of 200 petrol but not many 250s about does the extra 20 BHP make any difference ?.
It's just I find the wife's 200 184 BHP slightly underpowered,
Or sod it and just get a 350
I test drove the 250 petrol and 250 diesel; apart from the diesel noise I preferred the diesel in every way, absolutely tons of grunt (more torque than my dad's 4.2 Landcruiser or my previous SL500, for example) make overtaking a breeze. It's just I find the wife's 200 184 BHP slightly underpowered,

The killer though is the fuel economy - my average over the last 9000 miles is 48.4 mpg. However on a long run mid 50s are normal and when I'm driving to work a shade under 70mpg. It really is very cheap to run.
If you're getting a new one on an Agility or PCP or whatever I can't see why you wouldn't get the diesel - it's got very similar performance figures to the 250 petrol and costs buttons to run. The standard PH "diesel is rubbish" mantra parroted on here really does wear thin.

Thanks for that I will defiantly test drive a diesel.
Must admit over 50 mpg does sound good for my trips to London.
I have a 250 CDI AMG Sport. 50 mpg plus is easy. £30 of diesel gives 300 miles. A very quick car in sport mode. Standard HIFI is superb. I have the air scarf but wouldn't again. Heated seats are a must and parking sensors too. A very nice car.Must admit over 50 mpg does sound good for my trips to London.

SLK cheap deals appear to be back, albeit not quite as cheap as before. Think they're around £220 (that includes VAT) on a 9 + 23.
Mine was 430 all in for 15kpa 3+23.Rang up to see if I could factory order one and they were 520 on a 6+23.
I'm just going to have to ring up nearer the time and have "whatever they've got". I'm not paying all that just so I can have a red one.

I've airscarf and heated seats. Of the two I use heated seats much more often than airscarf.
The mid-range torque of the CDI makes it a quick car in everyday driving situations.
I'm averaging 49mpg after 12k.
Lastly, mine is black which is a real PITA to keep clean. I wont drive a black car after this one for quite a while.

Why would you not recommend the air scarf ?
It works well but I just find with the heated seats on and fan blowing warm on a medium setting its snug enough with the top down. My air scarf effectively came for free as I got a stock car but I wouldn't want to pay extra. I actually found last summer I put the roof UP on occasion as it was simply too hot in the sun. Many thanks for all your comments.
Think we will go for a diesel after all.
Like the polar white AMG sport with pan roof.
Heated seats
Black leather with white stitching.
Air scarf
Ash trim (however seems very rare all cars seem to have aluminium).
Ambient lighting
I already have a Becker unit to instal so not to bothered about command.
Just need to find one now before the end of May
Any other extras that people think are nice to have
