I'm looking at upgrading my tripod from one which vibrates when a butterfly flies past to something a bit more robust.

The Manfrotto 190xprob and 055xprob seem to be highly regarded, but it's difficult to make out the practical or operational benefit of the 055xprob over the other, for the £30 price premium.

Anybody who has experience of both who can throw a little light onto the differences please?

I'll probably be getting the Manfrotto Pan + Tilt Head with Quick Release MN804RC2 to go with it. Thanks in advance.

055 is taller.

Even if your short this is very handy. It's also heavier.

I started off with a 190 and whilst the majority of my shots are low to the ground on occasions I wanted the camera at eye level it wasn't tall enough (I'm 6'3). The 055 was much better for not needing the centre column (which should be avoided for stability).

This.

You can always make a tripod shorter but you can't make it taller.
