Owning a Defender has given me an entirely new insight into Things That Can Go Wrong with Cars

Universal joints. Do yourself a favour and make sure you lovingly grease each and every nipple on at least a weekly basis in oder to avoid the heartache and pain that derives when a universal joint nipple doesn't feel the grease and proceeds to turn itself loudly into iron filings and your 4x4 into a 2x4.

Every week, I think that may be excessive. Unless of course you are driving in really gruesome conditions.

Have your footwells initiated Phase 1 of self-cleansing by filling themselves with water?

Yep, one of mine failed shortly after a full and very expensive service at a main LR dealer.
