I got done doing 170kph on the Belgian autoroute near Spa this morning and fined 275Euro - frogmarched to the cashpoint in fact!

Chalk it up to experience or do I worry about points hitting my UK licence some time?

For now....
There is talk of making points euro-wide in the future.

Pete,

How did they catch you?

I thought the Belgium plod generally turned a blind eye to speeding.

Best be a little more careful next time I go to Spa or the Ring. Once I hit Belgium I tend to cruise at around 180-200 kph.

A common misconception on Pistonheads??

We have an office in Eindhoven so there are lots of us that regularly head down the E40 through Belgium. While the speeds are generally faster then most UK motorways, there are always police around and you can't take the piss - many of my colleagues have been caught and given on the spot fines.

Having said that we all slow down even more as we cross the Dutch border because the police are even worse there.

They tend to be hidden in the middle reservation behind the shrubbery, usually at the larger gaps which they use to transfer traffic from side to side of the Autoroute. On the Zeebrugge-Brussels autoroute cameras under bridges cars on nearside, usually dark blue (Ford and Pug) estates. Bikers then pull you......

time for a stealth install radar detector then! the logistics of intra EU fines/penalties would be horrific, we can hope that wipes out this idea... anyone heard any news / progress regarding this?

I think I just drove past them & they sped up to catch me. They were waiting for people leaving the Wheeltorque event at Spa, I think, and just cherry- picking the brightest (!) cars.

I've certainly learned my lesson. On the way down we were crusing at around 140 with peaks at max speed, so bloody lucky to be caught at "only" 170kph!

But you generally drive through France to get to/from Belgium.

Radar detector in France = £500 fine.

I've been stopped for doing 200kph and over on more than one occasion here in France, and i've never been fined (Brit plates). They always just ask me to 'lift my foot' a bit. French coppers are generally pretty chilled-out, in my experience, but i do get a bit worried when i see them leaning on their vans at roundabouts resting shotguns on their shoulders...

Remember seing a targo topped green/white 911 with two trenchcoated coppers at the roadside in belgium years ago, kinda makes you realise they are serious too......
