Blue smoke 996 turbo/oil usage
Discussion
I put a post on a couple of months ago about the worrying amount of blue smoke that comes out after most start ups, and the cars unbelievable appetite for Mobil 1.
General consensus was that this was not abnormal, and things should settle down after a couple of thousand miles or so.
well, 3 months and 4k miles later and things still seem to be the same, still get large puffs of smoke, usually during morning starts, and about a 1-2 litres of oil per month.
my GT3 doesn't use that much oil after 5 hard trackdays, and never get any smoke on start up !!
Possible causes could be fact that my wife drives it every day for the short trip to work, could this be a cause, or should i be making a trip to the OPC ???

...for your piece of mind, get it checked out at the OPC. That's a LOT of oil usage (up to 2 litres per month). Also, large puffs of blue smoke on EVERY startup is also not good news.
Numerous short-trips to work can't be doing the engine/exhaust ANY good whatsoever, especially in the Winter. If you're planning to ditch the car in a couple of years, then fine - otherwise maybe your wife should drive something else to work.
