Just wondering if anyone has done it? Given the number of banks offering 0% interest for a long time thought it would be a good way to manage cashflow

I did it for a kitchen refit but never having bought a car from a dealer i dont know what's possible

Bought my last XJ-S on a debit card, no probs.

Did feel a bit funny though, not something I'd ever done before I suppose. hehe

Should be possible - although any dealer who would do it will be charging you the 3% or so that hes going to have to pay in fees.

And a trader who is happy to take the hit on the merchant fee, or you will have to pay a bit extra.

Careful though, somebody will be along shortly and tell you that you can't afford it and you will die from the result....

Generally the dealer will pass on the 3% or so merchant fee to you for a CC.

Isn't the 0% normally for balance transfers but then there's often a 2-3% handling charge, plus the dealer charging or not discounting the 3% he has to stand suddenly puts the 6% total close to the amount you may get finance and the kick backs for, particularly at the end of a quarter when dealer targets need to be met etc.

Did buy my last car with a debit card though.

We use 0% purchase cards for everything as our wages pile up in the bank and relieve interest on the offset mortgage.

Currently using a Tesco card 0% purchases for 18 month.

Back in 2005, the TVR Tamora was falling into my price bracket, we went to look at one at a non TVR, but sports car specialist, took the Tuscan along hoping to do a deal on that, unfortunately the dealer had no interest in the Tuscan,Racing Green TVR had let them down after underwriting the Tamora,so to cut a story short, bought the Tam on a CC at a very good price and sold the Tuscan privately.
Had the pleasure of the two of them for 6 weeks biggrin

The last two cars I bought, dealers have said to me it'll be a 3% charge, but when I came back to pay they didn't actually add it on.

The balance transfer game is by far the cheapest way to finance a car, providing you can get a card with a limit large enough to buy the car you want.

I have worked for a few main dealers and none of them will accept more than a couple of grand on a credit card. Even when the customer has offered to cover the charges the answer was still no.

yep i think this is the trade off.... im sure i can get a card with 0% for new purchases (i got over 24 months worth of interest free credit on 2 cards for my kitchen stuff which i repaid in full in 9 months) but im not sure if i can get an unsecured loan for less than what the dealer wants by way of merchant fee.... i could of course be boring and save up or use savings etc but was wondering if there was a no cost option to spread the load...

thats interesting. my outlay i expect will be around 20k but at least 10k will be cash/debit so id only be looking to put about 10k or so onto the credit car

car in question will be a 997 so unlikely to come from a official porsche centre more like marque specialist...
