Well the time has come to change cars and I'm looking at a Land Rover (or other 4x4).
I'm moving much closer to work, so the commute is 5 miles instead of 35. Therefore the economy is not a huge point. I would like to get a V8 and have about 8k to spend.
I really like the look of the FFRR My query is - as I would be looking at 10-12 year old cars, is this a sensible buy? Also, there seem to be a lot for sale around 100k miles - is this when things start letting go?
I'd like a petrol V8, but are any of the diesel engines preferable (for reliability, longevity etc, not economy).
Finally - although this is in the LR section, for my budget, are there other 4x4s that I should be looking at in preference to LR?
Many thanks

The BMW-era L322 FFRR is a lovely car to own.
Yes, there's areas to look out for but they're lovely things to own and drive. The seats are especially comfortable. An early model will have archaic sat-nav but that's about it. You can burble around with ease.
The 4.4 petrol V8 is no road burner, though. There's a lot of weight to move. Low-end pick-up is good but it tails off after that.
A good search on FFRR.com will help you massively.

Many thanks-i will check that website out and do some reading.
I'm not after earth shattering performance, just a reliable 4x4, with as bulletproof an engine as possible. I won't be doing much off-roading, but the new house is on some hills that see snow most winters. I also need to be able to chuck stuff in the back, like my mountainbike and hiking and camping gear.
Thanks again
