Peugeot 206 Gear Linkage?

Hiya,
im in need of some help really my "s" reg 1999 Peugeot 206 1.6 GLX when I put it in any gear I can easily wobble the gear knob side to side would this be the linkage that's worn or would it be play in the gearbox?

Sounds like linkage. Does it jump out off 2nd gear and in 2nd does the gear stick wobble

I haven't noticed it to just a lot of play when its in gear is all. its been like it ever since I had it but im not too keen as I drive Honda's all day long weather it is common in a 206 or not but when I say play I mean it must move 15mm? from side to side,

It will be the linkages, replace them and it will be as good as new.

Just the linkage you don't need the gear stick

Do these have similar gearboxes to the Saxo? I know Citroen and Peugeot share a lot of parts.

If so, the part you need is a roll pin. It sits on the selector (I think?) at the back of the gearbox and was about £3 from Citroen when I had the same problem with my Saxo a few years ago. Sorted the problem completely without the need to replace linkages.

206's are known to have gear linkage problems from memory though so doesn't surprise me. My one was dodgy as well and would struggle getting into gears at times

There is no need to replace the entire linkage, and in fact it'll be a waste of time. If you want to completely firm up the gear selection back to brand new then replace the nylon bushings between the rods as well. Mega cheap fix and fairly easy too.
