Reports of a Malaysia Airlines 777-200 has lost contact 2 hours into a flight this evening.

Bit close to home for this of us who regularly fly around SE Asia for business, was on a Thai 777 2 hours before this in the same area, perfect weather so that won't be a factor.

Very sad news. Will relay any news I get to hear locally.
Speculation is wrong at this time but I don't see a terrorist connection to attack these two
countries. Catastrophic failure or pilot disorientation a stronger possibility in my mind.

Wow, that was a shock to wake up to, think we have perhaps got used to planes not crashing all the time like they used to seem to and it always seems to be dsmaller planes in remote places. 777's have an amazing record but I guess as the years and miles mount up nothing can completely avoid incidents.

I had a look on PPrune, seems remarkably calm in there so far, it is usually someone speculating following by somone saying they shouldnt speculate, some of the comments do concern me that they are in charge of airliners, though I suspect most arent anymore or never have.

Large oil slick has been spotted. Talk on pprune of a passenger travelling using a stolen Italian passport.

ETA Also a stolen Austrian passport used too. Both stolen in Thailand.

Really not a stretch if the imagination to see connections. An increasingly Muslim nation with extremist areas and a flight to the Chinese capital full of Chinese who are seen as oppressing Muslims, a week after a terror attack at a Chinese train station. And two passengers on stolen passports.

Well maybe. Surprised they'd murder some many Malaysian citizens and crew in the pursuit of their aims though.

Stranger things have happened. Vast majority on the flight were Chinese and maybe KL had a weakness or connections that could exploited.
