R26r - 5 years on!!

Yup, she's 5 years old this week, where has the time gone??!!
Bought really because I started getting into trackdays and realised the previous evo was just too big, heavy, expensive and not really suited for that sort of thing.
I'd had an R26 so knew the meg was a capable machine and after seeing one at the motor show took the plunge. Haven't looked back 5 years and 13k miles later.
Primarily seen at bedford autodrome, the keen among you will have spotted the corner in the pic above lol, but other "proper" tracks are starting to be encountered now too. Our trip to spa 2 years ago was truely a top 10 life moment.
Equally suited to a late night blast round london - great fun...
...or a trip to ace cafe - always gets great comments wherever she goings.
Anyway, not everyones cup of tea I know but perfect little car for me and here's to the next 5 years...

bah, i nearly did that many miles in my first year-& it wasn't even my daily driver!
still regret selling mine, though i did hear on the grapevine that it had had some serious engine issues after i sold it.
if renault ever make another one i'm sure i'd have another-though i'm very interested in the VXR extreme.

Thanks folks - lovely replies.
She's more or less stock, but as things got worn out;
1. Brakes have been replaced with PF 330mm 2piece items.
2. Forge intercooler.
3. Dunlop direzza 03Gs, didnt like the R888s.
Other than that, just got old fashoned regular maintenance, no issues to report, flew through it's MOT, so can't really complain.
The megs dont seem to be too happy when people start to tinker with them, so leaving mine well alone!!

as far as i'm aware there aren't really that many gains to be made iirc? we came across one that had had the k-tec remap & exhaust when on track at le mans & there was absolutely nothing in it between the cars wen we went out for laps together.when you think about what could go wrong if you pushed the engine too far i can't see the point, especially when you consider just what a well balanced package the car is as standard.
in 20 years time they'll be all over the front of classic car magazines, you mark my words
Future legend,the first car of its kind (well you get the concept) and set the benchmark on the ring so low ,a time that fwd cars are still lowering today.
Great to know you kept it so long that's the way it should be owned,these are even more capable on track than much more expensive road cars.
Fantastic car,given the chance no doubt would own one with Ti and without the stickers.

And you only need to look at the prices that "Non molested" Cosworths fetch to put you right off messing with what will become a sure fire classic in another 10 years (IMO) ;-)Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
