Networked printer dropping out.

Odd one this.
I currently run a wireless network with the printer hanging off the desktop machine (Win98SE) which is used as a print server.
My laptop (XP Pro) will print wirelessly no problem for a while but after a time (not sure how long) when I go to print, the laptop can see the printer but says it cannot connect to it. I have the desktop set to switch off monitor and hard disks after an hour - could this be the problem?
