I would personally have the mondeo, even if it is down on power. My father has an insignia and I really hate driving it, clattery lifeless engine (160 cdti) and horrible to drive on anything that isn't a motorway. The engine in my 6 years older fabia vrs is so much better, more poke, smoother and quieter!!
To give it some credit it does look good and the interior is quite nice, but that's about it to be honest

Ive a new gen mondeo. Been faultless in 4 yrs. Get a titanium for all the toys. I think it drives well but it is a barge. Terrible in snow. Cavernous inside. Love heated windscreen. Dab. And phone set up. Mines a the 2 l version. 39 ish mpg town nursery run, shopping. Ie no runs. On proper journeys expect an easy. 55 and more even thrashing it and driving spiritedly.
Its a very comfy and nice place to be though. I treat it as a white good: its functional and fulfils my family hobby needs etc.
Have no idea how it compares to a Vauxhall. Ive never owned a ford and ive been driving since 80,s. Im very impressed though.

Please don't go for the Insignia! I covered about 10k miles in as many weeks, in one (a cdti se from memory). A mix of central London and motorway driving after having had a Hyundai 140 Touring for the same miles and timescale. In comparison to the Hyundai it was the most insipid lackluster car it has ever been my misfortune to drive. Go for the Mondeo every time.

What? Seriously?Quite clearly didn't ignore them by going to have a look at the Mondeo the following day after seeing the suggestions, then decided he didn't actually like it...
Just because some people say one thing, doesn't mean he HAS to go with it on that basis.
He didn't even drive the Mondeo. The way it drives is the main strength of the Mondeo compared to the Insignia. Are we unaminous then? Everyone except the OP...Fair enough OP

Insignia is still a decent car however I just think the Mondeo is a great one really delivers everything you would ever need in a day to day car.

The other thing with the Mondeo, of course, is that it's a ruddy pig to see out of the back of. I managed to back ours into 3 things in the first year as I couldn't see them. Not sure that the Insignia is any better.
Of course, for me, i still think of Insignia as being shower gel from the 70s....
