ELO : "Civil" Woman

After meeting my childhood hero Jeff Lynne this week, I was mooching through my old vinyl and found this misprint on the label of a compilation album made in 1989. It's only taken me 25 years to notice! The sleeve is correct and I did play it just to see if it was a track I'd not heard before.

The irony is, it couldn't possibly be any more wrong!

Saw a documentary about his career last year on BBC4 I think. Came across very well, very bright guy and someone you would definitely want to have a beer with.

Great band - was listening to 'Telephone Line' last night; brilliant!

I had 'Out of the blue' when I was a kid, it came with a build-it-yourself cardboard UFO. Fantastic gatefold album.

I saw that too, came across as a very influencial, talented and nice guy, despite the permanent and dubious big curly hair, beard and smoky two tone shades.

I wore out a casette tape of "Time" listening to it repeatedly on a walkman when I was 12 years old. I was in the back of a car on a 6 week family "Fly Drive" around the southern states with this on as permanent soundtrack (when I wasn't looking out the window I was hammering away at a double screen Donkey Kong). Great days!

It's not considered a classic album, but to a 12 year old me Time was all classic ELO sounds, space-age noises and sci-fi themes that suited the big American desert landscapes of Arizona, New Mexio and Texas, and the drive up to Houston to see the big rockets was brilliant with this on in the background.

As for his musical and lyric writing abilities, he's one of the best. ELO should really have been called the Jeff Lynne band.

You lucky bugger. I listen to ELO a lot! "Time" being my all time favourite album.
