It is 75ft long, so storage in any yard is not going to be cheap, but yes, I agree £12k for storage is silly, storage is one area with a wooden boat where costs should be pared to the bone to save money for wood/glue/fastenings/paint etc.

I like to think that if I owned a marina, and there was a historic ship in difficulty - the WW2 launch at West Mersea being a recent example - I'd cut them some slack. The launch was relegated to Weetabix thanks to a grasping marina owner.

I'm relatively new to boat ownership in the scheme of things but am I right in thinking that all marina owners are rather mad?

I like the sentiment of your post very much, however, boatyards are businesses not charities and the owners have a huge investment to re-coup.

There's obviously a finite amount of both money available and people willing to take on historics and you / we can't save them all.

Unless she could be put back to plying a profitable trade or as a water authority / museum exhibit it's hard to envisage someone picking up the tab.

That's not even 12k to moor it, that's 12k PA on hard standing as it's out of the water. Which is ludicrous.
