This is a great feature and it makes night time driving very easy. However, I have noticed twice that cars I am following are putting their fog lights on 'in protest'. It could be a complete coincidence but given that this has happened twice in a week (and there's been no fog) I am assuming my lights are too bright for people in front of me. Not had any issues with oncoming traffic though. Anyone else had issues with this feature?

I use mine all the time (if nothing else to watch the 'black hole' move around the road as you follow other cars hehe ) and have only had an issue on the same stretch of road which is where I'm coming out of dip.

Other than that no other cars either being followed or driving towards me have either flashed me or put their fogs on.

I assume you can see the black hole and the system is working properly?

I thought high beam assist was for oncoming cars not cars in front?

I may be wrong!

Edit: So wrong!

Thanks. Yes, the roads are hilly round here (I suppose you would expect that in the Surrey Hills!) and that is probably it.

Yes - the black hole is great (reminds me of an episode of 'Lost').

Never found mine to be anything other than a hassle as it never flicked off in time to not dazzle traffic on coming or in front. Thought it was a pointless feature when it 1st appeared years ago.

Is also crap on our Audi Q5 so not a Bimmer thing.

Does it work well on the Honda CRV loan car???

Sorry - couldn't help myself!

I think its brilliant. The black hole when following another car is very clever. Only ever had one person flash me.

Looking at your garage, you'll have only experienced the previous generation. The current version moves the light around vehicles you're following, as well as more dynamically accommodating oncoming vehicles. It's a technological marvel.

If link works, it's the short version of how it works. I was dubious after the system in my E90, but the F31 is great.

Ha fking ha;) The Honda CR-V doesn't have such features, although when you press the Economy button the dash turns Greensmile

Tried it several times & the system doesn't react quickly enough to cars in front & even worse on twisty roads when oncoming cars are head on before it reacts which again is just too slowfrown

My bad, my current car (tongue in cheek) isn't listed in my garage (updated now). Assuming it's the latest generation on my current car & still think it's poor. Also in that video clip it makes reference to LED Adaptive Headlamps, my headlamps are not LED so perhaps only the real clever tech is on those who've paid the extra for LED?

On the Q5 it will be older tech as that car's well over 4yrs old & just switches the main beam on/off, but tbh i assumed that's how the M5 one works as not seen it do anything clever & just appears to drop main beam (albeit too late) when faced with an oncoming car.

Used mine last night on a 50 mile stretch of A roads, worked really well, no fog lights or flashing...

Yours should be the latest - it is standard now even with Xenons. You should when following a single car on a dark road see it create a dark box around the car in front. It is interesting to watch it move the 'black hole' around as the car in front moves. If you haven't seen this it may be broken?

If/when i get my new M5 i'll try it again as perhaps it was broken on the rejected one.

I had an F10 M5 following me in Ironbridge whose lights were randomly flashing me when the road got bumpy. I had to pull over to let him past in the end as it was a nightmare.

That's simply because you were too slow and he wanted to get past smile

Should I be worried that most F10 M5 drivers don't seem to actually know if they are blinding the car in front or not....
