Bloody Pirelli's

Took the CLK55 out for the first time this year yesterday.

I obviously should have checked the tyres a bit more thoroughly as about 20 mins in, after i floored it slightly on a straight road, the steering started veering to the left and a burning smell.

So pulled into a farmers gate, and a rather bit shocked as the the state of the tyre


Tyre is the worst I've ever come across! But could have gone a lot worse and glad it went on a straight rather than the tight corners i was a few moments before.

Looks like a couple of bulges on the inside?? Possibly from being stool still for a couple of months??

Tyre says Bridgestone not pirelli on the side ?. How old are the tyres ? Most likely sidewall has deteriorated due to age, take a look at the other tyres check for cracking.

Unlikely its due to being sat for a few months, My TVR is often sat for 2-3 months at a time, never had a problem with the tyres.

Looks like an old tyre that has perished and then just come apart under load. What is the manufacturing date on the sidewall?

I'm slightly confused by this too.
Have you been watching F1 and assume all bad tyres are Pirellis?

Reminds me of a customer who said he wouldn't buy a new Jaguar because the one in the show room was fitted with Pirellis. His exact words were "I watch Formula 1. I know a thing or two about tyres."

I reckon there was no air pressure in the tyre for the full extent of your 20 minute drive.
