Porsche Specialist Inspections - any good?
Discussion
I'm considering having an inspection done on a 996 Turbo I've seen. I was wondering if anyone had used a specialist inspector before and what your experiences were? Trying to work out if it's worth having one or not. The car is near Stockport so I'm particularly interested in any specialists in that general area.
Thanks

Well worth doing in my experience, especially with a complicated car like a 996 turbo. I had my 996tt inspected before I bought it and had the dealer take the car into a local indy that I trust and respect.
Only minor points were found which not only gave me comfort that I wasn't buying a lemon (no over revs or rust etc) but I was able to negotiate new tyres from the dealer as the inspection showed that the front tyres were 10 years old, yes a very lightly used car!!! This recouped the cost of the inspection.
Not all dealers will be willing to take the car in for an independent inspection but the good ones will. Be wary of those that don't....maybe they have something to hide

It's a good way to suss out the owner also. I bought mine private, organised and paid for the inspection and the owner drove it down. It gives a good guide to how much outlay you have coming around the corner, don't forget it is not science or a full strip down and rebuild. So still have a contingency - it is a Porsche after all.
Find out where it has been previously serviced if it is an independant give them a call if they do mobile inspections or if the owner will drop it off. There are a few good indy's around Manchester.

Nearest to Stockport would probably be Tony Greatorex or maybe Lodge Sports in Gorton - although whilst they're undoubtedly experienced with Porsches I'm not sure either of them will see 996 Turbos that frequently. Consequently I'd suggest Sports & Classic in Knutsford or Hartech in Bolton as being the next closest couple, who regularly see Turbos - on from there to Warrington for Unit 11 or Ninemeister.
Details for all should be in the Wiki of Specialists - at the top of the General forum now I think.

Contact Russ at Revolution Porsche, see what he can do for you - he's in the middle(ish) of Sheffield and Manchester.
+1 for Russell @ Revolution, I had taken my 964 to them in the past and I recently purchased a 996TT from near Oldham so got them to the PPI for me and their prices were excellent (Was going to change the front brakes myself but the quote from Russ was less than I could buy the parts, even with the labour and VAT included!!)Paul O said:

Alternatively, try Peter Morgan - specialist inspections.

You may remember me. We were in the Supercardriver Club about 3 - 4 years ago with the carbon black E46 M3, always had my two lads with me. We will hopefully rejoin in the near future as I should have the car by end of the month. look forward to seeing you then.
