Brand new rear shock leaking oil

It shouldn't be doing that on the second ride!
Mine only did that after 6 years.

Depends how much float oil was in there from build. It will always be oiled by the oil behind the seal in the canister. Best to wipe it off and monitor it.

I'd agree. If it's been overfilled by the factory, then it'll blow the excess out first ride abs then maybe settle down
If I was in your shoes, I'd dupe it down abs them monitor it quite closely. I'd also phone the shop you picked it up from and just let them know as they may just want to change it for you

Nah, unless that's dirty water masquerading as oil, that's not right - the most I've ever seen is a ring of sticky oil on the shaft - not a pool of it sitting on the sag ring.

Exactly this. I only see enough oil to make dirt stick to the o-ring on mine. It got a little worse after a service when the oil was changed but nothing like that. If it kept going at that rate it would be dry after a couple of rides

Certainly keep an eye on it, but be really mindful of it's performance too. I haven't open a shock in years, and not one of the type you have, but I'm pretty sure it can only leak on the shaft from the air spring and there's not a lot of fluid in their, maybe 10cc of Fluid Fluid.

If youve ever seen one stripped down, theres hardly any oil kept inside.
they are just air canisters and the oil is just used as lube.

I agree with too much oil from factory, will be ok after a few rides.
