What van?

Due to a possible change in work circumstances I may be working for myself again so it's going to mean getting a van (I'm a joiner). There are a couple of routes I can go down but I need to weigh up my options.
I currently have a mk4 mondeo estate that I could keep and get a smallish van to go along side it but ideally it needs to be a euro 4 so I can get cheaper road tax and I would like to be able to get a door inside the van (2m ish).
Other option is flog the mondeo and get a crew van but again I would like to get a door inside, possibly even stretch to a 8x4 with some clever work to the bulkhead and seating. I know I could use a roof rack for the doors, in fact I will be having a roof rack but it's much better putting them in the van.

Budget is around 3k for the small van and 6kish for the crew van. FWIW I have had a vauxhall combo and a door doesn't fit, I'm not sure about a connect/caddy etc. With the larger vans I have had a swb mk6 transit, new shape citroen relay and currently have a mwb mk7 transit. Are transporters really worth the money and do vivaros still eat their gearboxes?

how about a Peugeot partner? they seem fairly sturdy. other than that, SWB vivaro, transit or vito

If I'm going for a vivaro I would go for a lwb because 8x4 doesn't fit in the back. Are you talking about the new or old dispatch? I don't really like the twin sliding doors on them.

What about Toyota hiace.
Cheaper than a Transporter and more reliable.
