A good blatt - Does it make a difference
Discussion
So, my question is, if you spend a lot of miles pottering, then go for a high speed blast, does it clean stuff out.... does a high rev blast get rid of deposits, does it clean up the plugs, does it clean up the injectors? Or is it a myth.... I ask this because since because the last track day, (in February) mostly spent between 4K and 6K rpm, and on a dry road yesterday, beastie felt significantly quicker, and more responsive, than she did last year... maybe it's just my imagination, and the fact that I haven't given it full beans over the winter coz the roads have been damp all the time.........
Got slightly sideways at about 55 in second this morning.. bone dry road... It was like I'd forgotten how quick the damn thing is

There is some truth in it, as getting the catalyst really hot burns all the crap off and reduces the exhaust back pressure. It will also help burn carbon off sooted plugs. If you never thrash an engine, the specific wear points that occur under greater loads and RPM remain "tight" so the engine friction remains higher at these points. Thats why a well thrashed loose engine can give more power-up to a point where you start to loose compression due to piston ring or bore wear.

Car is fully decatted, but see where you're coming from with the other points
It's almost like someone's secretly remapped it... It's a bit like the situation I had before Christmas, when someone put some plasticene through my letter box.
I don't know what to make of it...
All the above, mines going ballistic at the moment.
After a track where the wide open spaces and other fast cars give you the impression that you're not going very fast, narrow roads full of other users make your car seem faster, that's why we get pulled occasionally
!
If I'd known you were about and I'd thought of it, car limits on Sunday would have made your day.
A timed circuit on a wide open runway produced tail sliding in every bend, 4 wheel drifting into bends and even wheel spin in third. It was the best buzz ever, better even then a track day, very competitive!

Funny that, I've been thinking of sprints, decided I can't afford trackdays, but you could do loads of sprints with little engine damage and the people are always great fun. Its a really good day out.
Sprints are great fun, for the competition angle....... But by ek, there ain't half a lot of hanging around doing nowt
I used to get to Curborough, nice n early, sign on, scruteneered.... Then wait, for the first practice run.... 60 odd seconds later back in the paddock and then wait for the second practice run... 60 odd seconds later back in the paddock, lunch, then first timed run... 60 odd seconds later back in paddock and wait for second timed run.... Second timed run complete, pack up and drive home...
All in all around 8 hours of hanging around for not much more than 4 mins on track........ The novelty of competition soon wore thin....
Track days are far better value IMO

That's the trouble and I quite agree with you.Track days are far better value IMO
Track days are great fun but Sunday was a real buzz, (obviously the pressure all crammed into a short time).
What we need is a competitive sprint, in safe surroundings, no 'elf and safety and at least 15-20 runs in a day, anyone got an old runway and a load of cones?

It seems it went a bit quiet in 2013 as far as events are concerned, and no current updates regarding 2014.

I'm guessing this would have been well attended by the Grief brigade
