Got a Golf R for 24hrs

I picked up a new Golf R today for a 24 hour test drive

I must say that so far I am impressed with it and depending on what tomorrow brings I may just have to get one ordered

nice engine. the likely criticism of it is that it'll be a bit front heavy and numb. Be interested to hear more, as they do tick a few boxes.

Are they handing them out now? I got a phone call today from VW out of the blue after inquiring about the Golf R before Christmas. Need to phone back to see what they are after. Wonder if their £14k trade in price has been reconsidered since I laughed at it...

If they bid £14k before Christmas I wouldn't get your hopes raised for it having gone up since then

I will be giving it a good going over today and hopefully not testing the airbags, I have only found one mode I like so far in the settings and it is of course race/sport mode...!

I really like the look of the new Golf R, it would be the perfect car for me. The pricing seems to make the GTI kind of pointless, only a few thousand difference. Sadly a £30+k car is way beyond my reach and looking at current prices for the previous model then I won't be able to have a used one for at least 5 years either .

Do you currently own a 911 and buying this as a second car? If you are, I think you're about to fall into the same trap I did

I was driving a Gallardo as my main car, but decided to get something else a bit more practical alongside it. It started off sensible (looking at Dacia Dusters etc) and to cut a long story short ultimately ended in a bit of buyers creep and man maths and the purchase of a Cayenne GTS (4.8 petrol v8)

For the first few months it was all fun - but it very quickly wears off... imo once the 'new car' feel has worn off its not that interesting to drive when you know you've got something a million times better back at home. Now I'm driving to Spain next month and my only thought is 'what a waste, 15mpg (if i'm lucky) in a car I can't care less about'. The GTS has absolutely been a stupid decision for me. At worst I should have stuck with Duster or whatever... at best I should have maybe bought a Diesel Cayenne. I'm not exactly likely to go on a sunday morning drive on my own, or a track day, in the cayenne so the performance of it is irrelevant really.

If you do have a 911 at home and you're driving a Golf R... I reckon you're going to just quickly find it extremely boring and slightly annoyed at what its costing you for no extra fun at all.
