Toddler-seats for Tamora (or other T-car)

Our little lad likes his passenger rides in the Tamora (roof-off, fast asleep), but at nearly 18 months he is outgrowing his baby seat.
Any recommendations for something that fits well in the next size category, until he is 4 or preferably older?
This is what he is in currently:
And this is the Kiddy Guardian Pro 2 - Good seat with an impact cushion rather than harness (easier on the neck should I drive into something).
It sortof fits ok, but there was some concern about the gap between the child seat back and the main seat. Although with the reclining foot extended (deliberately pushes the base forward) it would have this gap in any car. I have sent some pics of the fit to the manufacturer for their opinion.
When the seat expands to fit a bigger child the back raises up, but the curve of the TVR seat forces it further forward /upright. In most normal cars the seat back is fairly straight and the head rest removes so you don't have this problem. While it would stop this seat being used in the TVR past ~4 years old, we could carry on using it in our other car until the age when he no longer needs a seat.
If people have successfully used a seat for children from 1.5 years upwards I would be interested to hear what it was.
