Hi Chaps

I have recently aquired a spare cam cover for the beast and wanted to know a few things.

Firstly, how important is the design of the breather hoses that are cast into the side? My current cover has the two hose points located close together in the centre of the cover, but the new one has one located in the correct position and the other further away? any help with this little question would be nice.

Secondly - heat proof paint. I see that our friends at eliseparts.com sell these covers in various colours to suit your preference. I seen them at the Donnington show first hand and they looked well cool. but where do I get heatproof paint with a gloss finish? the usual suspects (halfrauds) sell heatproof exhaust paint but I have used this before and it cures to a matt finish.

Again any help will be most welcome.

I have no idea about the hose possitions. As for the pain you ould try hammerite, they do high temp stuff, also try deamon tweeks or the like and get some brakecaliper paint. Usually a 2 pack resin sort of thingy. I have my calipers painted with a gloss finish and havent, had any problems with flaking etc.

Hi Mate

Hammerite only do heatproof paint in 2 colours, black & Silver not what i'm after really.

Anyway, the caliper paint could be a good idea.

Has anyone got any ideas about the breather hoses then?

Cheers - wako

I have always just used ordinary Hammerite (Smooth Finish) on cam covers and have never had any problems with temperature. Even on race engines.

Eliseparts.com do painted cam covers to save you the trouble for 58quid in a load of colours. Look under engine in the index.

Radiator paint would be ok I'd think.

As to the hoses, you need to cut the cover I think. The locations of the hoses moved over various versions of the engine. Its definitely different on the S2 to the S1.

Yeah the hose location is different on the S2 cos the cam cover is completely different (and nowhere near as nice IMHO). This is cos the later engines use plug-top coil pack (wasted spark) ignition systems rather than a dizzy so there is a much bigger plastic plug lead cover than on the S1.
