Samsung LCD recording advice (with memory sticks)
Discussion
evening all,
Just moved into a new house and have a little cash left over for new tech..
I had all the tv and aerial sockets installed higher than normal on the walls so i could wall mount all the TVs. Partly for aesthetic reasons, partly to save on furniture! The downside is that I can't have any recordable free view boxes. I also don't want SKY.
After a visit to John Lewis, i'm sold on the Samsung range as i can access catch-up on all major channels rather than the selected channels on other makes.
Question is, if i get a twin tuner TV, will i be able to record using USB sticks? Also - will i be able to pre-set what i want to record in advance, like with Humax/SKY/etc...
If anyone has experience doing this - i'd be very gratefull for your advice..
Cheers,
J

Hi J,
I have a Samsung LED TV. it's not a dual sat one however from my experience with recording it isn't as easy as plugging in a usb unfortunately. On my model especially I has to use a portable hard drive instead of a USB. With your TV being on the wall too unless you can build some sort of stand to hold this on you're going to struggle.
I did try recording too and as i said above i only had one ariel so had to record when i knew i wouldn't be watching TV however it was really to record and play back.
Another thing i like about Samsung is if you connect it to the web and you have any Samsung devices in the house you can stream music, videos or pictures to it which is always an added bonus.
Hope this helps.

I bought a cheap 32" telly for the bedroom with built in free view and DVD to reduce clutter. Wasn't till I was unpacking it I noticed it said 'records to USB' on the box. Its exactly as easy as it sounds to use. Highlight programme, press record, hit OK (or adjust times; its not free view+) and off it goes as long as there's a USB stick present.
The recordings are in a weird format, but still play on a laptop with VLCplayer.
This was LOGIK, Curry's own brand I think.

Got a samsung ue22f5400 here. It will record to USB, but the device has to be fairly quick. None of my USB pens were, but an old 5400rpm laptop HDD was. One of my little kingston USB pens was only just not fast enough. If you have a nice quick drive then you should be fine. If not, a bit of sticky backed velcro would be enough to attach a small USB hdd to the back of the tv!

thats exactly what i did after finding the sticks too slowI know for fact that you can record onto a USB western Digital 500GB hard drive from a SAMSUNG UE46F8000 TV
I don't have the TV myself but the reason I know is that I sold a mate my drive
the drive is this type:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Elements-500GB-Portable-Ha...
And it conveniently sits behind the TV secured via a Heath Robinson contraption of Blue Tac sandwitch with cable ties round the drive crossed like an old fashioned parcel and those then strapped to the bracket on the wall
I assume the TV you get will have wifi built in but if it doesn't as its an older model don't feel obliged to pay daft money for Samsungs wi fi dongle. Consider something like this instead: -S/H on e bay around £28
