Ecumate. Nice.
Discussion
My Ecumate arrived today, had a play with it and its telling me things!
Stepper sticking (code48)
It also suggests one of the lamda's isn't working( wiring maybe)
I've used the manual function to adjust stepper but it keeps sticking.
Got the car to idle but its still not right.
Dash off tomorrow to see why Ive blown speedo bulb.
Speedo is cooked me thinks but I still can't see why!

Notice the lambda!
As I'm running a non cat map I'd have thought they should both be 0

The non cat map should show 128 for lambda trim on both sides. 128 is the mid point of the 256 steps available between fully rich and fully lean, so not sure whats going on there?. The idle mode shows the speedo unit is not producing a false pulse when the car is stationary, so thats good. The stepper error codes mean the ECU cant control the idle with the stepper, ie it cant keep the idle at 800 rpm, even with the stepper wide open. This can be anything mechanical / electrical that makes the engine RPM drop too low at idle. If its the stepper itself it would be pretty stuck as it normally winds fully open to start the car when cold, so do you get the raised idle when cold? See if you can wind the idle up with say 30 stepper pulses? The ECU should correct it back down again in a few seconds. Push it the other way and chances the engine will die before the stepper corrects it.Stepper sticking (code48)

Dont forget there is no time stamp on the error codes- so the stepper fault could have been there for some time and now cleared- so clear the codes and see it comes back before you get to worried about it.

Excellent thanks, stepper motor sticks, free it up and it sticks again. A couple of times it would respond to manual adjustment quite nicely but then would stick again. I cleared codes and whilst stepper worked, no code, I'm rather concerned about the lack of lambda response but haven't checked feed as yet. Other screens seemed within parameters. My speedo seems to be working now but its still not quite right.
Blitz, Mark I'm taking it into Power to have an engine service etc after the spring rush slows down, I'm putting the standard Y back on. The car has been perfect since engine re build so once its all back together I'll then start to use Rover gauge, to monitor and pre empt medicine.
I want to check voltage levels etc as I'm convinced I've fried something.
Stepper ran at about108-128 when ticking over at about 850 revs.
I think the ecu went into limp mode but went back to no cat map.
Mark where do I buy the Rover gauge lead.
Regards Alun.

You can drive the stepper shaft out to give it a really good clean, if you first remove the stepper, and then keep applying stepper motor pulses (without the engine running), but be warned it will ping out with the spring at the end of travel, so get someone to keep hold of it. You can get it back in if you reverse the process, but make sure its all lined up with the key way first. The cheap ebay steppers have caused problems as the shaft lengths are wrong, but you can cut the shafts down and they will work.

I've had the stepper out and felt the pulses, it works then stops but its still pulsing. Its been cleaned with petrol etc, I manually set it half way out then carefully put it back into Plenom and engine instantly idled well but driving the car it soon starts to give an irregular idle.
I'm sure it had a miss fire and it pops on overrun and its never done that.
Dom built me a lovely engine and its only done 5000 miles since so I'm leaving it alone until he's confirmed what I've done to it!
Once its running correctly I'll be into learning as much as is possible about Rover gauge.
I used your screen shot to give me some parameters and all seemed pretty good on ecumate.
I've been trying to avoid computers for years but its time I embraced them. Thanks for replying Mark, I'll be getting your cable shortly.
