Hello All,

I've got an 1:43 SMTS white metal kit of a TVR Cerbera to build, but I'm not satisfied with the supplied solution for the tail light units.

There's a recess on the main model casting to receive another metal component that represents the light cluster, as per this:

The lights are such a signature part of the car that I want to model them better than the standard kit offers!

If I make some moulds, is there a product that I can use to make clear - or better still, smoked lenses that I can then back paint? It's probably too small a scale to be fettling and polishing bits of acrylic into the right shape!

Regards,
Olly

You can get clear resin casting kits, but I guess you'd be wasting a lot?

There are also optically clear versions of Loctite and Araldite too.

Your best best is to get a small pot of clear casting resin, there's some stuff called 'water clear' which will do the job. For the moulds, I'd be using a product called Oyumaru, which is great stuff. A quick guide here;

Remember, you'll want to create your colour behind the lense, so you need to take that into account. The SMTS ones are a bit 'meh', aren't they.
