I have a new set of 225/40 T1Rs on the front of my car and need either matching profiles (directional only) to put on the rear (T1R not available in 235/40) or a full set of 4 all round (most likely assymetric) and I'll sell the T1Rs which are brand new.
What tyres are people running at present that can handle a fair bit of spirited driving? My car is a 4.3 so has noticeably more torque than standard so I do want a reasonably grippy fast road tyre. I was originally thinking of R1Rs but for various reasons would rather stick with something a little less hardcore.

Why not fit the T1S on the rear?

T1S is asymetric, whereas the R is directional. The 2 differing tread patterns do not make a happy combination hence I either need to find a complimenting decent directional for the rear or a full set of asymetrics all round. Either way its a fair chunk of cash hence any recommendations would be much appreciated smile

Fairy muff.

Assuming you go for a set of 4. I found Grippy.com to be the cheapest for the T1S and they come to your to fit. I think you also get £5 off for liking them on facebook. Guy who turned up had worked on TVRs before and was happy to do things with extra care.

Also have a 4.3. I've just changed from R888 to Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2, 225/40 and 245/40.

Very happy so far. Grip is very good and they're quiet and comfortable.

Yoko AD08. Works very well in the dry, not so good in the wet, but not scary. Progressive feel and produced enough grip on the track to throw all the wheel weights off!

I put Eagle F1s on mine and I hate them. Feels very strage and floaty at high speed where the toyos were planted. Changing them very soon.

I am just swapping T1R's for R1R's on my Tamora, and there's plenty of tread on them if you're interested in the rear pair. (Will measure tread depths tomorrow). They have been great but I just fancied a stickier set of R1R's for the warmer weather before they disappeared completely - and I'm hoping to get on track this year. Size of the T1R's are 225/35 ZR 18 up front and 255/35 ZR18 at the rear.

I did see that thread. It put me off a bit but I thought they're a good all round tyre and I was quite fed up with the R888s.

I've not found them strange or floaty at high speed but I was expecting them to grip less than the R888 but I've found the grip very good.

What are you going to get instead?

They are fine under 100 leptons but over that they feel distinctly odd, little steering corrections make the back feel like you've hit ice. Tried different pressures etc but I just dint have confidence in them. Fronts are fine though oddly.

I loved the T1Rs but they don't make tamora size anymore so I'm stumped!

Have to say that my new Toyo R1R are simply fantastic.

Had to up the ride height at the front just a little and correct the geo with the help of St8six.

Now that's done they have sent it up to Surface and Design this week for a total colour change.

Wish me luck !

I once had them on my Tamora and absolutely hated them. Far too hard.

Agree - be careful with the hard compounds like those. Absolute hedge magnets on damp cold roads when I had them fitted to an Elise, even at sub 30 mph speeds. Fine for ragging on a dry track in the Summer. Toyos on mine (those and Yoko's were better than Pirelli on the Elise)

Ive been on the Federal 595 RSR fast road/track tyre, quite possibly one of the best tyres i've used for all road conditions, good v tread design , great in hot conditions on track at Monza with no going soft like a 888 would, happy on our roads in the wet or dry, 3000 miles and they are only just starting to wear a little on the rear with the 4.3 now tearing them apart. Far better than the various Toyo's ive used in the past, well recommended!
