£1000 summer car/project

Yes it's another 'what car?' thread, sorry.

So me and my girlfriend have recently moved house and we have a double garage. I'm looking for something to put in it.

Budget is £1000 and it has to be a convertable or some sort. Obviously it'll be a sort of rolling project type thing in that price bracket.

We have both had mx5s in the past so something a little different would be nice. Rwd is not a necessity, just something to enjoy the occasional sunshine in really. I've got a clio 182 and she's got an mg zr160 for our daily drivers.

I've looked at mx5s and mr2s so far, anything else I should be looking for?

So, other than MX5 or MR2, a soft top for £1k. Are you excluding the hatchback based cars like a Golf or Megane?

I've been looking at MX5's, MR2's and MGF/TF's.

The Porsche 924 keeps getting my attention, i ideally want a rag top, but the 924 seems to tick a lot of my boxes.

I had one of these with the 1.6 VTEC engine. Superb little cars, and the engine is a peach.

? I had a spitfire as my first car, before I passed my test, in fact I got rid of it befre I passed my test so can't give you much info on how good they are :-)

What about an E36 32X convertible? If you can get rid of rust and if you can do bodywork then it would be a good running project.

Great ones will be above 1k but 'projects' (depending on how much work is needed will be within your bracket).
