private plates seem to be on the wane

from my general observation. What do you think yay? Or nay? I'm sure I used to see a lot more of them. All crap, I can't see the point so I'd prefer it if they disappeared.

I can't see the point in a lot of things but the world would be a duller place if they didn't exist. As for private plates, if people want to buy one, why shouldn't they?

IF the gov really wanted to make big bucks they could allow people to put whatever they wanted on plates...........within reason as they do in the USA. (I await a moron to answer with bks etc).

I don't like personal (or vanity as they are more correctly known in the USA) plates, but I totally agree - it's nuts that plates that either spell something or might do if you rearrange them beyond all recognition and squint at them fetch so much - it would be much fairer to let all the attention seeking passive-aggressive weirdos have whatever they want and charge through the nose for it. BTW - I am not being ironic, I really do agree, let people have what they like. The problem is that people who have already paid a fortune would see their values fall and they wouldn't be too thrilled I imagine.

I have a couple of cheap plates. I bought the first for fifty quid off Gumtree, then BMW kindly launched the 135i and it went up in value.

Not sure about leases, but PCP doesn't prevent private plates AFAIK.

To common now to see this sort of thing- A1 ABC as an example. More classy is SH 34 or any other 2+2 or 2+1 combo.
