Need to replace mine. I gather that if I want a drop-in solution choice might be pretty limited.

From somewhere (I forget where) I have a note that a good solution might be MB Quart DKD146. Problem is Google doesn't bring up anywhere I could order these in UK.

Might be able to source via Ebay from US but would prefer not to go that way if I can.

Anybody got suggestions as to where I might source MB Quart speakers in UK or a recommended alternative?

I was browsing through the carnewal website and saw some upgraded 993 rear speakers. Can't tell you anymore.

Take a look for yourself.

Might be in the same situation as you there, one of mine sounds like it may have issues!

What's the reson for limited choice of replacements, is there something odd going on back there???

Would you let me know how you get on yourself and I'll do likewise...

Most 4x6" speakers should fit with no mods. Plenty availble, think even halfrauds have some. Otherwise try any MD Quart / Focal specialist.

Thanks Pickled - looks possible.

Ocho - the local audio people said problem is limited depth in the enclosure so need a very shallow speaker. Might have been bulls*ing me I don't know.

So far I can't find any MB Quart suppliers on the web but I'll have another go and visit the local car audio shops.

Thanks again for all comments.

Sorry no idea where to source MB quart speakers..

If you take out the rear seats remove the sound deadening and fit thinner carpets, you will be better able to hear the glorious music from your flat six,
this will also save you money as you will not have any need for rear speakers

I replaced my 4x6 speakers in the 944 with Alpine SPS-460A 2 way speakers purchased from ebay for £75.

These were recommended by Clarks Garage as they are a slim fitment, require no mods to fit and offer superb sound.

If yours are 4x6 they are certainly worth a look.

Was that a recent purchase from Ebay and a one off or an Ebay shop who's likely to have some more??? (If so the Ebay shop is???)

Thanks anyway though, have always liked Alpine and would match the head unit for what it's worth...

It was a recent purchase - the ebay member was Indoaudio (stereo trader I think). He doesn't seem to have any listed at present, but would be worth getting in contact with him through ebay. The purchase went extremely smoothly and the speakers were delivered very quickly (I paid through PayPal). These speakers are also listed on the US ebay at very low prices & some ship to Europe.

I just put some MB Quart 6x4 in the back of my 964 last night ! Bought them from a place on Tottenham Court Road. Here's their website, though they don't list the MB Quart 6x4.

http://caraudiosecurity.com

Cost me £40 despite the £59.99 price tag on the box. The guy in the shop said he'd installed a pair in the back of a 993 the previous week and highly recommended them. Can't really comment on the sound quality yet as awaiting a new head unit and the tape player on the existing one is not working and radio reception is poor !
NB they don't come with any mounting frame or grilles so need to go into the existing mounting kit. I found that the frame on the 964 Blaupunkt was no good as the speaker was actually set into the base plate. Fortunately I had an old pair from my 3.2 which had a normal oval cut-out base plate which fitted perfectly.
Good luck !

I bought a pair of Kenwood 6x4s that fit straight into the original holes and are not too deep either.
You have to use the Kenwood grilles tho - speakers are fine (used for fill anyway). Cost about 40 squid.
